The Blood Collection Technician procures blood products from donors/patients to support production requirements. Recruit donors for automated blood collection procedures as applicable per site or mobile.

 

We are also seeking an individual with a CDL-B license to be able to drive the Indiana Blood Mobile to locations throughout Central Indiana.
 
FUNCTION
Serves as an Indiana Blood Center (IBC) Blood Collections Technician representative demonstrating proficiency, professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills with the public while performing blood collection functions according to prescribed procedures of state and federal regulatory agencies. Position is critical and essential to the operation of IBC, especially in times of inclement weather, low inventory, or situations that affect the blood supply.
 
The experience that we strive to provide all of our donors requires you to anticipate and exceed the expectations of our highly loyal and committed donors as we strive to make their donation as convenient and pleasant as possible. In this position, you will perform accurate medical interviewing, determine donor eligibility, perform venipunctures, and assure donor and recipient safety.
 
This position will be for Mobiles Team out of our Main Branch (Indianapolis).

 

REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Previous experience in customer service required
  • Must be computer literate to accomplish functions of the job and to access/utilize company communications
 
DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS
  • Successful candidates will have previous phlebotomy experience
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting is a plus
  • Ability to express oneself clearly/effectively in written and oral form
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, management, vendors and/or customers as necessary
  • Ability to handle sensitive or confidential information discreetly. Well-groomed, professional appearance
  • Ability to work in a positive manner under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work well with others as a team member required
  • Must be accessible by phone
 
SCHEDULING
Our donor center and mobile drive hours are based on being available for our donors.  To ensure coverage for both mobile drives and donor center hours, this position requires flexibility on the part of our entire team.  We work hard to ensure that we have our team on-site when the donors are able to donate.
 
Schedule:   Staff schedules are posted 2 weeks in advance to allow for staff to plan around the variability of the hours.
 
TRAINING
Training for this position includes both classroom and hands-on mentorship (90 days).  The classroom training takes place at our Main Branch in downtown Indianapolis.
